The second chapter of Netflix series 13 Reasons Why is on the way.
The streaming giant has released a slick new trailer announcing the new season’s surprisingly close release date: May 18.
“The tapes were just the beginning,” reads the back of a Polaroid pic that Dylan Minnette’s Clay Jensen picks up. Indeed. From the sounds of the following synopsis, there’s a hell of a lot more to come.
Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of Hannah’s death and the start of our characters’ complicated journeys toward healing and recovery. Liberty High prepares to go on trial, but someone will stop at nothing to keep the truth surrounding Hannah’s death concealed. A series of ominous polaroids lead Clay and his classmates to uncover a sickening secret and a conspiracy to cover it up.
Netflix has also announced that new resources will be added to 13ReasonWhy.info on the road to the season’s release, including a Discussion Guide and a Discussion Series, the latter of which will find cast members addressing a number of the issues the show looks at, such as bullying, sexual assault and drug abuse.
The resources come after the first season – which followed teen Clay Jensen as he listened to the tapes left behind by Hannah (Katherine Langford), his classmate and crush who decided to end her life – was met with some controversy and criticism for its depiction of suicide and certain other themes.
All 13 episodes of 13 Reasons Why season 2 will be hitting Netflix on May 18.
