The 2026 Golden Globe Awards delivered a night of sharp turns, quiet upsets, and results that could echo right through to the Oscars. Some frontrunners turned nomination strength into trophies, while a few heavily tipped titles walked away empty-handed.

On the film side, One Battle After Another was the night’s biggest force, with Paul Thomas Anderson winning Best Director and Best Screenplay as the film racked up multiple major prizes. Hamnet claimed Best Motion Picture – Drama, with Jessie Buckley winning Best Actress (Drama), while Timothée Chalamet continued his awards-season run with Best Actor (Musical or Comedy) for Marty Supreme. In the supporting races, Teyana Taylor picked up a win for One Battle After Another, while Stellan Skarsgård took Best Supporting Actor for Sentimental Value.

Elsewhere, Wagner Moura won Best Actor (Drama) for The Secret Agent, while Sinners picked up Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson. Several prominent contenders — including Frankenstein, Wicked: For Good, and It Was Just an Accident — didn’t manage to convert nominations into wins, adding to a scoreboard that felt less predictable than usual.

Television also brought a reshuffle. Limited series Adolescence had a huge showing, with Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper, and Erin Doherty all winning. Rhea Seehorn took Best Actress (TV Drama) for Pluribus, beating out nominees including Kathy Bates (Matlock), Keri Russell (The Diplomat), and Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), while Noah Wyle won Best Actor (TV Drama) for The Pitt in a category that included Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) and Adam Scott (Severance).

In comedy, The Studio won Best TV Comedy, with Seth Rogen also taking Best Actor (TV Comedy), while Jean Smart won Best Actress (TV Comedy) for Hacks. Familiar favourites like The White Lotus, Only Murders in the Building, and Severance were well represented in nominations, even as stars including Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Ayo Edebiri, and Jeremy Allen White missed out on wins. The Globes’ expanding slate also continued with Best Podcast, which went to Good Hang with Amy Poehler.
