24 is heading back to television, and Straight Outta Compton‘s Corey Hawkins is the man taking the lead.
Hawkins, who played Dr. Dre in F. Gary Gray’s successful N.W.A. biopic, has been cast as Eric Carter, the lead character in Fox’s upcoming revival.
The new series, titled 24: Legacy, has only been locked in for a pilot at this time, but Variety‘s sources say a 13-episode order is looking promising.
24: Legacy will follow Eric, a man with a rough history who changed his ways during his time in the Army Rangers. Settled back at home in Virginia with his wife, a character yet to be cast, Eric is thrust back into action when his past comes searching for him. He asks the CTU for help and kicks of a series of events that could stop one of the biggest terror attacks seen on American soil.
The new 24 will not see the return of Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer, who was most recently seen kicking ass in 24: Live Another Day.
Hawkins is certainly on the up and up. The actor, who recently had a recurring role on AMC’s The Walking Dead, will also have a role to play in Legendary’s upcoming Kong: Skull Island.
