It seem as though Ang Lee has taken a liking to 3D technology. After winning an Academy-Award for Life of Pi, Lee has decided to tackle another 3D project. Deadline has reported that the director will be developing the project at Universal Pictures. Not much is yet known about the film, only that it is “an epic look at the boxing world of the 1960s and 1970s, as seen through the prism of its biggest rivalries and greatest fights. That will include the showdown between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali that was called the Thrilla In Manila.”
That may not tell us much about the film’s plot, but it sure sounds awesome.
The screenplay is being written by Peter Morgan, the fantastic screenwriter behind The Queen, The Last King of Scotland, Frost/Nixon and Ron Howard’s upcoming film Rush.
Ang Lee is the type of director that doesn’t do the same thing twice. He used 3D beautifully in Life of Pi; enhancing the story instead of just worrying about the visual effects. Imagine seeing the classic Frazier/Ali fight in 3D! We can’t wait to see what Lee brings to us next.
