Netflix has released the trailer for The Menendez Brothers, an upcoming documentary shedding new light on the notorious case that gripped the nation in the late 1980s and 1990s. Take a look above.

A big draw card here: For the first time in nearly three decades, both brothers offer their personal accounts through new audio interviews, providing a rare glimpse into their perspectives on the events that unfolded.

This feature comes on the heels of the streaming platform’s controversial true-crime series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story. Erik publicly slammed the dramatisation last week, calling the series a “dishonest portrayal.”

The Menendez Brothers delves deep into the lives of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted in 1996 for the brutal murders of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. The case became a media sensation, dominating headlines and sparking widespread debate about the motives behind the crimes. The documentary not only features the voices of Lyle and Erik but also includes fresh interviews with their cousin, Diane Vander Molen, and former prosecutor Pamela Bozanich. Vander Molen shares familial insights that may shed light on the brothers’ upbringing and family dynamics, while Bozanich revisits the courtroom battles that captivated the public’s attention.

The documentary’s director is Alejandro Hartmann, who has plenty of experience crafting true-crime docs, including two previous Netflix releases: 2020 mini-series Carmel: Who Killed Maria Marta? and 2022’s The Photographer: Murder in Pinamara.

The Menendez Brothers is set to premiere on Netflix on October 7th.
