The first trailer has been released for A Dog’s Purpose, the upcoming adaptation of W. Bruce Cameron’s bestselling novel.

Okay, so if you love dogs and are susceptible to canine-induced emotion, get the tissues ready for this one. From director Lasse Hallström (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Cider House Rules), A Dog’s Purpose tells the story of one dog (voiced by Josh Gad) that gets reincarnated and is taught the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love.

Yep, it’s a shamelessly emotional heartstring-puller, and it’ll probably pack in quite a few wallops throughout. Hallström is no stranger to the sweet and tear-inducing canine story, having also directed the much-loved, oh-so sweet, Richard Gere-starring Hachi: A Dog’s Tale.

A Dog’s Purpose, starring Dennis Quaid, Britt Robertson, Peggy Lipton, K.J. Apa, Juliet Rylance, Luke Kirby, John Ortiz, and Pooch Hall, hits U.S. cinemas on January 27, 2017.
