Based upon the novel by Madeleine L’Engle, A Wrinkle in Time follows a young girl (Storm Reid) on her journey through time and space to find her father (Chris Pine). Three celestial guides – played by Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherpoon and Mindy Kaling – join her on her journey.
Up until now DuVernay’s resume has mostly consisted of grounded drama, so it’s going to be interesting to see if the filmmaker can deliver in this highly imaginative spectrum. The trailers have been promising so far, with a nice sense of wonder, trippy, colourful visuals, and a solid cast (which also includes Zack Galifianakis, Michael Peña and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) supporting the young leads.
We don’t have long: A Wrinkle in Time will open in the U.S. on March 9 and arrives in Australia on March 29.
