The first official cast member for the upcoming Star Wars film may be Adam Driver. Even though no official announcement has been made, Variety is reporting that Driver is signing on to play the villain in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII. There’s no word as to who exactly Driver will be playing, only that his character would be “in the vein of iconic Star Wars villain Darth Vader.”
Driver has been rumoured to be a part of the upcoming film for some time, but there were doubts surrounding his schedule. Driver has a key role in HBO’s comedy-series Girls, which is currently in its third season. Star Wars: Episode VII and its future episodes would require the actor to be free, and apparently his schedule has been sorted out for him to take on this big new role. Driver’s certainly a busy man. He has also been cast in Scorsese’s upcoming period-drama Silence, starring Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson, and is currently in-production on Midnight Special for Warner Bros.
The highly anticipated next chapter in the Star Wars saga is due out December 18, 2015, with production set to begin at London’s Pinewood Studios this coming April.
