Alan Ball, known for creating Six Feet Under and True Blood, is lining up a new series with HBO.
The Academy Award-winning screenwriter, whose credits also include American Beauty and Cinemax series Banshee, has crafted a new family drama with a series order by HBO. According to Deadline, the series…
…Focuses on a contemporary multi-racial family: a philosophy professor, his lawyer wife, their three adopted children from Somalia, Vietnam and Colombia, and their sole biological child. This seemingly perfect, progressive family is in actuality harboring deep rifts. Then, one of the children begins to see things others cannot. Is it mental illness? Or something else? The series is a tragicomic meditation on the complicated forces at work on us all in America today.
This continues Ball’s healthy partnership with HBO, which recently signed a new two-year overall deal with the writer.
The untitled series, which will also see Ball executive producing alongside Peter Macdissi under his Your Face Goes Here banner, sounds like just the type of project Ball can tackle with his eyes closed at this point. It’s right up the writer’s alley, offering up an array of family members colliding and simmering with revelations just under the surface. Expect humour and in-your-face drama.
