Alden Ehrenreich has just earned himself the role of a lifetime.
Many actors auditioned for the part of a young Han Solo, but there can only be one. Alden Ehrenreich, who put in a great performance in the recent Coen brothers picture Hail, Ceasar!, is set to take on the iconic role in a planned Star Wars spinoff film.
Page Six first broke the news, which has subsequently been confirmed by other outlets, reporting that the deal between Disney and Lucasfilm execs and the 26-year-old actor “is basically done.”
The still-untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the filmmakers behind 21 and 22 Jump Street and The Lego Movie. Attached to the screenplay is Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon Kasdan. Lawrence also co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and last year’s The Force Awakens. The film is currently scheduled for U.S. release on May 25, 2018.
Rumours are that Ehrenreich’s Han Solo will have a cameo in the upcoming spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is currently in production and is set to hit the U.S. on December 16.
