Two new Alice Through the Looking Glass TV spots have dropped, giving us more of the upcoming sequel to Tim Burton’s 2010 box office smash.
Mia Wasikowska reprises her titular role in this follow-up, which sees Alice returning to Underland and reuniting with Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), among others. The Hatter has lost his muchness, so Alice is sent on a mission to borrow a metallic globe known as the Chronosphere, leading to a race both against and through time.
Disney’s live-action take on Alice in Wonderland made over $1 billion in worldwide box office receipts, so it’s no wonder they’ve gone full steam ahead with a sequel. From the look of things, fans of the first film should be right at home, with lively CG visuals and a game cast. Burton opted not to return for another round, instead handing the reins to The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted helmer James Bobin.
The two TV spots below (slight variations of each other) focus on the inclusion of Time, the half machine-half human character played by Sacha Baron Cohen.
Alice Through the Looking Glass opens in the U.S. on May 27 and Australia on July 14.
Synopsis for Alice Through the Looking Glass:
Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska) has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of Underland and her friends the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen), Absolem (Alan Rickman), the Cheshire Cat (Stephen Fry) and the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), who is not himself. The Hatter has lost his Muchness, so Mirana (Anne Hathaway) sends Alice on a quest to borrow the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the chamber of the Grand Clock which powers all time. Returning to the past, she comes across friends – and enemies – at different points in their lives, and embarks on a perilous race to save the Hatter before time runs out. Presented in Digital 3D™, Real D 3D and IMAX® 3D, Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass” opens in U.S. theaters on May 27, 2016.
