20th Century Fox has unveiled a big new trailer for Alita: Battle Angel, the upcoming futuristic adventure film based on the graphic novel series by Yukito Kishiro.
Directed and co-written by Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) and co-written and produced by James Cameron (Avatar, Terminator 2), Alita: Battle Angel tells the story of a cyborg girl (Rosa Salazar) who is found by a compassionate doctor (Christoph Waltz). As he tries to shield her from her past, Alita discovers she holds unique fighting abilities that deadly forces are keen to control.
Laeta Kalogridis (Night Watch, Shutter Island) is also behind the screenplay of this potentially exciting pic. The visual effects, as you’d expect, look phenomenal (even if some shots don’t appear fully finished yet) and there’s a great design on display. If that script is good and the characterisation is on point, we could have a winning blockbuster here. Check out the trailer below.
Alita: Battle Angel, also starring Eiza González, Jennifer Connelly, Michelle Rodriguez, Jackie Earle Haley, Mahershala Ali and Ed Skrein, opens in the US on 21 December and arrives in Australia on Boxing Day, 26 December.
Official synopsis for Alita: Battle Angel:
From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognise, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realises that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.
