Altered Carbon will have a new lead actor in its second season.
Netflix‘s big sci-fi series will star Anthony Mackie in season 2. He’ll be playing specially trained “Envoy” soldier Takeshi Kovacs, who was played by Joel Kinnaman in season 1. Yep, that means Kinnaman isn’t returning.
Altered Carbon‘s plot, which tells of a future where consciousness is digitized and stored in cortical stacks implanted in the spine, means anyone could really play Kovacs or any other character as the show goes on. The series is based on the classic science fiction novels by Richard K. Morgan.
Season 2 has creator Laeta Kalogridis returning as co-showrunner and executive producer, with Alison Schapker (Alias, Lost, Fringe) joining the series as co-showrunner and executive producer.
This marks the first lead role in a series for Mackie, known for playing Falcon in the MCU and whose credits include Pain & Gain, The Night Before, The Hurt Locker and Detroit. Mackie will next be seen in The Hate U Give, based on the best selling novel by Angie Thomas.
