‘Altered Carbon’ Season 2 Teaser Trailer Introduces Anthony Mackie as Takeshi Kovacs’ New Sleeve

Netflix has dropped the teaser trailer for Altered Carbon season 2, which this time has Anthony Mackie as the new face of former Protectorate CTAC soldier Takeshi Kovacs.

Having a sci-fi series set a future where consciousness is digitized and stored means you can have a never-ending line-up of actors taking on the same role. Joel Kinnaman played Kovacs’ sleeve in season 1, with Will Yun Lee playing Kovacs – in his original body – in flashbacks.

Season 2 finds Kovacs still on his centuries old question to find long-lost love Quellcris Falconer, whose original body is played by Renée Elise Goldsberry. He’s recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World, where he investigates a series of murders, and discovers that his new mission and his search for Quell are completely connected.

Season 1 was an engrossing, fun sci-fi series (our review is HERE), although the oh-so layered lore and depth behind everything sometimes made it a little difficult to keep track of every detail. Still, it was great, and it established a universe with a tonne of possibilities. It’s going to be cool to see Mackie in the lead role in chapter 2, which also brings back Chris Conner as Kovacs’ loyal A.I. buddy, Poe.

Altered Carbon season 2, also starring Lela Loren, Simone Missick, Chris Conner, Dina Shihabi and Torben Liebrecht, will be hitting Netflix on February 27.

Official synopsis for Altered Carbon season 2:

Altered Carbon takes place over 300 years in the future in a society transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent.

Season Two of the sophisticated and compelling sci-fi drama finds Takeshi Kovacs (Anthony Mackie), the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry). After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs finds himself recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quell. Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same. With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe (Chris Conner), Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?
