‘And Just Like That’ is Ending with Season 3, Sarah Jessica Parker & Cast Share Reactions

HBO Max

HBO Max’s And Just Like That… is officially coming to an end.

The sequel series, which brought back Sex and the City favourites Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, will finish its run with a 12-episode third season and a two-part finale to close things out. The news comes from showrunner Michael Patrick King, who revealed that the final decision was made during the writing of the season’s last episode.

“And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end,” King said in a statement. “While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.”

King explained that he worked closely with Sarah Jessica Parker, HBO’s Casey Bloys, and Sarah Aubrey to bring the series to its conclusion. “We decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12,” he said, adding, “SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season.”

A Creative Choice

As reported by Deadline, the choice to end the series was a creative one – although dwindling audience numbers may have a part to play as well. While And Just Like That… drew strong viewership during its debut, its ratings have declined over time—season 3’s premiere was viewed by 429,000 households, down from 463,000 for season 2, according to Samba TV. Despite ongoing media attention and fan engagement, the sense was that the characters’ arcs had largely played out and the desire for further continuation had lessened.

Reactions from the Cast

Sarah Jessica Parker, who has played Carrie Bradshaw for nearly three decades, reflected on the series’ end with a heartfelt Instagram post. “Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all,” Parker wrote. “I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion.”

Parker expressed deep gratitude to the audience, her co-stars, and the entire production team, continuing: “MPK and I together recognized, as we have in the past, this chapter complete. AJLT was all joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent of 380 that includes all the brilliant actors who joined us. I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be forever before I forget. The whole thing. Thank you all. I love you so.”

She concluded her message with a note to fans about the upcoming finale: “I hope you love these final two episodes as much as we all do. Rabbit rabbit.”

Cynthia Nixon, who has played Miranda Hobbes since Sex and the City began in 1998, also shared her feelings about the show’s end. “I can’t believe our wild beautiful And Just Like That ride is almost over,” she posted. “It has been such a delight from start to finish. I will miss working with these people everyday SO incredibly much but know we will always be a part of each other’s lives.”

Kristin Davis (Charlotte York) posted her own reaction, saying, “I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working hard on our show with deep love.” She added a thank you to fans: “we love you forever and ever.”

Nicole Ari Parker, who joined the revival series as Lisa Todd Wexley, described her experience as “an honour and a joy to be a part of this iconic family.” She thanked King, Parker, Nixon, Davis, and the team behind the series, posting, “from the first day to the last, it has been Just Like That: Amazing.”

Kim Cattrall, who did not participate in the series apart from a brief season 2 cameo, shared a sunset photo with the caption, “It’s the end of a very long week.”

Looking Back at the Revival

Premiering in 2021, And Just Like That… continued the lives of its central trio—Carrie (Parker), Miranda (Nixon), and Charlotte (Davis)—as they tackled love, friendship, and change in midlife New York City. The show’s three-season run covered a range of stories, including Carrie’s loss of Mr. Big, Miranda’s new relationship with Che Diaz, and Charlotte’s evolving family life.

While the series sparked debate and divided opinions, it gave longtime fans a chance to revisit these familiar characters, even as the landscape around them—and their personal lives—shifted.

The final two episodes of And Just Like That… are expected to air soon, bringing the long-running saga to its conclusion.
