Four-time Oscar-nominated actress Annette Bening is about to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The actress, known for American Beauty, 20th Century Women and The Kids Are Alright, among many other films, has signed up for a role in the studio’s upcoming Captain Marvel.
THR broke the news, reporting that although there aren’t any details regarding her role available, her character’s job description contains the word “scientist.”
Bening will be joining quite the cast, including Brie Larson in the lead role as Carol Danvers, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, and Gemma Chan, with Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace on board reprising their Guardians of the Galaxy roles. Samuel L. Jackson will be back as Nick Fury and Clark Gregg returns as Phil Coulson.
Most of the plot details are being kept under wraps, but what is known is that Captain Marvel will be set in the ’90s and will explore the intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds: the Kree and the Skrulls.
Production is currently underway on the film, which is being directed by Mississippi Grind helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The film is scheduled to hit US cinemas on March 8, 2019.
Among the other projects on the horizon for Bening is Georgetown, the feature directorial debut for Christoph Waltz (who will also star), and post-9/11 drama The Torture Report, with Adam Driver and Jon Hamm among those in talks to co-star.
