Edgar Wright’s next film is coming together.
The director of Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver is putting the pieces together for his next film, which has been titled Last Night in Soho. Wright told Empire last month that the film would be a psychological horror-thriller set in the titular London town and would be influenced by thrillers like Don’t Look Now and Roman Polanski’s Repulsion. The screenplay comes from Krysty Wilson-Cairns, whose credits include Showtimes series Penny Dreadful and upcoming Sam Mendes-directed (American Beauty, Skyfall) war film 1917.
One of the film’s leads have now been cast. Anya Taylor-Joy, known for The Witch, Split, Morgan and the recently-released Glass, has signed on to play a leading role, although there aren’t any plot details to go on as yet. Expect more big names to be announced soon.
This will mark the first film in this vein to come from Wright, who has dabbled with thriller and horror before with the likes of Shawn of the Dead and Hot Fuzz but given them a highly comedic bend. We’ll see just how serious he gets here.
The talented Taylor-Joy has been on the up and up since The Witch. On the horizon for the actress is Fox’s X-Men film The New Mutants, where she’ll be playing Illyana Rasputin, aka Magik; Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, where she’ll be voicing a character named Brea; and a youth drama titled Here Are the Young Men.
