‘KPOPPED’: Apple TV+ Announces K-pop Song Battle Series Led by PSY and Megan Thee Stallion

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ is expanding its unscripted lineup with KPOPPED, an eight-episode competition series that pairs Western musicians with K-pop idols in collaborative song battles. The series, set in Seoul, will be hosted by PSY, the South Korean artist behind “Gangnam Style,” and three-time Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion, who is also attached as an executive producer.

Each episode of KPOPPED will feature a Western artist reworking one of their hit songs alongside a K-pop idol, with the final performances judged by a live audience. The series aims to highlight creative crossovers between global music styles while showcasing high-energy performances.

“Megan Thee Executive Producer,” Megan Thee Stallion posted on social media.

Alongside PSY and Megan Thee Stallion, the show’s team of executive producers includes Lionel Richie, Moira Ross, Miky Lee, Greg Foster, Harry H.K. Shin, Jake Hong, Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Wes Dening, David Tibballs, and Bruce Eskowitz. The show is produced by CJ ENM, the company behind I Can See Your Voice and Parasite, in partnership with Eureka Productions.

This is Apple TV+’s latest step into K-pop content following its docuseries K-Pop Idols, which explored the lives of artists like Jessi, Cravity, and Blackswan. The platform also dabbled in music competitions with the country music-focused My Kind of Country.

A release date and full lineup of participating artists for KPOPPED are expected to be announced at a later date.

Deadline first reported on the announcement.
