Disney has unveiled the first trailer for Artemis Fowl, a big-screen adaptation of the hit YA novel by author Eoin Colfer.
The plot follows the titular 12-year-old boy, a genius and descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds who finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.
The book series is very popular, so there will no doubt be a lot of interest in what’s in store here. The first trailer doesn’t offer up much in the way of plot, but it does show off some interest snippets, and a few notable differences from the book that’s already driving concern among YouTube comments. The fantasy is directed by Kenneth Branagh, whose credits include Disney’s live-action Cinderella, Thor and Murder on the Orient Express.
Artemis Fowl, starring newcomer Ferdia Shaw as the title character, Judi Dench as Commander Root, Josh Gad as Mulch Diggums, Lara McDonnell as Captain Holly Short, and Nonso Anozie as Butler, will be opening in the US on August 9 and arrives in Australia on November 28, 2019.
