Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olson have signed on to star in the dark comedy Ingrid Goes West.
Plaza, who recently had a role in the comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, will be producing the film alongside Jared Ian Goldman, 141 Entertainment’s Adam and Robert Mirels, and Star Thrower Entertainment’s Tim and Trevor White.
According to Variety, Ingrid Goes West tells the story of “Ingrid Thorburn (played by Plaza), a mentally unstable young woman who becomes obsessed with Taylor Sloane (Olsen), a social media “influencer” with a seemingly-perfect life. When Ingrid decides to drop everything and move to the West Coast to befriend Taylor in real life, her behavior turns unsettling and increasingly dangerous.”
Attached as writer and director is Matt Spicer, who was recently hired by Disney to co-write a reboot of the studio’s 1991 action-adventure The Rocketeer.
Plaza has a number of projects on the horizon, including FX’s Marvel series Legion, the Emilio Estevez-directed drama The Public, and The Little Hours, a dark comedy also starring Alison Brie and Dave Franco.
Next for Olsen, best known for playing Scarlet Witch in the MCU, is Light on Broken Glass, a drama co-starring Patricia Clarkson and Chris Cooper, and the thriller Wind River, set to be the directorial debut for Sicario writer Taylor Sheridan.
