Aubrey Plaza has joined the cast of an upcoming Guy Ritchie film.
Jason Statham will be leading the untitled thriller, which was formally known as Five Eyes. The project was one of the most sought after at the Toronto International Film Festival’s virtual market; Miramax will now be producing with STXfilms, who chased it down after working with Ritchie’s previous hit, The Gentlemen.
The plot has Statham playing a guns-and-steel MI6 agent who is recruited by a global intelligence alliance to uncover and intercept a deadly new weapons technology that poses a threat to the world order. He reluctantly teams up with a CIA high-tech expert and embarks on a globe-trotting mission to infiltrate a billionaire arms broker.
Ritchie will also be producing the film, which reunites him with The Gentlemen screenwriters Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies.
Ritchie and Statham previously worked together in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Revolver. Before the above film, though, we’ll see what they have in store with Wrath of Man, an action-thriller that will Statham play a mysterious character working at a cash truck company that transports hundreds of millions of dollars around LA each week. That one’s lined up for a January 2021 US release.
Plaza has a role in recently-released holiday rom-com Happiest Season and has a number of projects on the horizon, including Lawrence Michael Levine’s Black Bear (with Sarah Gadon and Christopher Abbott) and Lina Roessler’s dramedy Best Sellers (with Michael Caine).
