Bad Boys for Life may actually be getting made.
A third Bad Boys movie has been circling a start for quite a while now, with Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces, The Grey) at one points seemingly coming close to writing and directing before the project went back into development hell. Well, it appears Sony Pictures may be getting close to giving the new team the go-ahead.
According to Variety, producers are happy with the latest screenplay draft to have been delivered and are considering greenlighting a production start in early 2019. Will Smith is reportedly on board to return as Mike Lowrey, and although Lawrence hasn’t signed on quite yet, he is also expected to return.
This draft comes from Chris Bremner, who worked as a associate producer on Kevin Hart comedy The Wedding Ringer. Variety reports that the studio is happy with Bremner’s “right mixture of action set pieces and laughs.” On board to direct the film are Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Belgian filmmakers known for crime films Black and Gangsta, as well as episodes of FX series Snowfall.
While Sony has yet to officially announce anything regarding the film, the studio is apparently keen to have Bad Boys for Life in cinemas by Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in January 2020.
