Netflix is really piling on these projects.
Oscar winners Joel Coen and Ethan Coen (Fargo, No Country for Old Men) are heading to the streaming giant with an anthology series titled The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, which they’ll be writing and directing. Annapurna Television is producing the project.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is to be a Western anthology that tells six tales about the American frontier. Plot details are being kept under wraps, although it is known that Tim Blake Nelson will be playing a character named Buster. The cast also currently includes James Franco and Zoe Kazan.
In their statement, the Coens simply said: “We are streaming motherfuckers!”
Added Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content: “The Coens are visionary directors, masterful storytellers, and colorful linguists. We are thrilled for Netflix to become home to the full range of their talents.”
The series will be hitting Netflix sometime in 2018, but those after their Coen fix before then needn’t wait too long. George Clooney’s next directorial effort Suburbicon, which Clooney co-wrote with the Coen brothers, will be hitting cinemas later this year.
