‘Band of Brothers: Legacy’ Trailer Reunites Cast 25 Years After HBO’s Landmark WWII Series

Easy Company is reporting back, 25 years later. HBO Max has released the official trailer for Band of Brothers: Legacy, a new documentary reuniting members of the landmark World War II series to reflect on the men they portrayed, the extraordinary production and a television legacy that has only grown with time. Watch the trailer above.

The documentary brings back Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston, Michael Cudlitz, Neal McDonough, David Schwimmer and military adviser Capt. Dale Dye, USMC (Ret.), among others.

This doesn’t look like a victory lap, either. The trailer keeps circling back to the weight the cast felt in portraying real soldiers whose stories had already become part of history.

“We were blessed and fortunate enough to be able to portray lives of absolutely true heroes,” says McDonough, who played Lt. Lynn “Buck” Compton.

Lewis, who starred as Major Richard Winters, remembers a cast determined to do justice to the men they were portraying. “We were a group of actors really wanting to do good work, wanting to do the thing right.”

There are also glimpses of the real Easy Company veterans, while the documentary will feature never-before-seen archival footage and photographs alongside the new interviews.

The original Band of Brothers, based on historian Stephen E. Ambrose’s book of the same name, followed Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, through some of the defining campaigns of World War II, from D-Day and Operation Market Garden to the Battle of the Bulge.

Executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, the 10-part series became one of HBO’s defining productions and went on to win the Emmy for Outstanding Miniseries.

Band of Brothers: Legacy comes from Hanks’ Playtone and is directed by former U.S. Army Green Beret Chase Millsap. Hanks and Gary Goetzman serve as executive producers, with Kirk Saduski, Richard Arlook and Sean Mullin producing.

HBO Max is also opening up more material from the original production. Beginning September 9, the Band of Brothers series page will feature video diaries recorded by Livingston and Richard Speight during filming.

The streamer is also launching an “In the Company of Heroes” collection, bringing together documentaries and other titles inspired by true stories.

Band of Brothers: Legacy premieres September 9 on HBO and HBO Max.
