Things keep on changing over at Warner Bros.

The studio has been on an all-important lookout for a new director since Ben Affleck stepped down from The Batman, and it looks like that search is over.

According to Variety, The Batman will now be directed by Matt Reeves, known for Cloverfield, Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes.

While he’s not at the helm, Affleck is still to play a very big role in the making of the film. On top of starring as the Caped Crusader, Affleck is on board as producer and has written the screenplay alongside Geoff Johns. He clearly has a heap of duties; perhaps stepping away from the director’s chair was the right call for a project this big.

Reeves has been on quite the run since directing the J.J.Abrams-produced Cloverfield, so this new Batman movie should be in good hands for now. Of course, that all comes down to whether the studio and creative heads can work well together. Things haven’t been going smoothly for the DCEU thus far, and now look at The Flash: three directors have dropped off and the project’s undergoing a page-one rewrite.

It now remains to be seen when exactly the film will head into production. The studio was originally looking to have cameras rolling in May, but that’s not looking feasible at this point. It’s been quite the journey for The Batman so far. Stay tuned…
