Warner Bros. has unveiled the first trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Ultimate Edition, an extended cut that will, at least in the U.S., come with a higher rating.
Containing around half an hour’s worth of extra footage, this edition will be offering up more violent snippets – Rated R in the U.S. “for sequences of violence,” give us an extended look at certain sections (Africa), and even offer up a few new characters (Jena Malone’s previously-unseen character is here seen talking to Amy Adams’ Lois Lane).
It remains to be seen if this cut helps provide more context for much of what goes on. Those who disliked the film often cited the lack of character motivation, a coherent structure, and the consistently jarring editing, which could very well be smoothed over with this version. We’ll see.
According to Collider, the Ultimate Edition Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and Standard Definition 2-Disc DVD contain the following special features:
- Uniting the World’s Finest
- Gods and Men: A Meeting of Giants
- The Warrior, The Myth, The Wonder
- Accelerating Design: The New Batmobile
- Superman: Complexity & Truth
- Batman: Austerity & Rage
- Wonder Woman: Grace & Power
- Batcave: Legacy of the Lair
- The Might and the Power of a Punch

Synopsis for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice:
From director Zack Snyder (“Man of Steel”) comes “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” starring Oscar winner Ben Affleck (“Argo”) as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Henry Cavill (“Man of Steel,” “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”) as Superman/Clark Kent in the characters’ first big-screen pairing.
Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
