Check out the new red band trailer released for The Beach Bum, the Matthew McConaughy-starring latest film from Harmony Korine (writer-director of Spring Breakers, writer of controversial Larry Clark films Kids and Ken Park).
McConaughey plays a poetry-writing, drug-loving rebel known as Moondog. But his aim to live life on his own terms and by his own rules can’t go on without any speed humps, can it?
Korine had a hit with Spring Breakers, and this looks to be in a similar aesthetic vain, following the aimless partying and all-round no-good antics of our protagonist and McConaughey letting completely loose with an in-your-face character as James Franco did. Korine’s work is often met with polarising opinions; some praising his edgy depictions of drugs and troubled characters, others eye rolling at what they feel are obvious attempts at envelope-pushing. We’ll see what unfolds here.
The Beach Bum, also starring Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Jimmy Buffett, Martin Lawrence and Jonah Hill, hits US cinemas on March 22.
THE BEACH BUM follows the outrageous misadventures of Moondog (Matthew McConaughey), a rebellious burnout who only knows how to live life by his own rules. Complete with an all-star cast including Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Jimmy Buffett, Martin Lawrence and Jonah Hill, THE BEACH BUM is the wildly original and subversive new comedy from writer/director Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers).
