Take a look at the trailer that HBO has released for Beartown, a tense and emotional-looking mini-series from Sweden.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Swedish columnist and author Fredrik Backman, the series takes a look at what unfolds in a small hockey town after the star junior hockey player rapes a 15-year-old girl. The victim, the hockey player, the team, the parents and the friends are all tested as the volatile situation escalates.
It’s a very strong trailer, suggesting a well-performed and layered look at how various individuals can respond to such a horrible scenario and how the victim can, sadly and unjustly, end up feeling ostracised through it all. Certainly won’t be an easy watch, by the looks of it, but hopefully it’s a great one.
Beartown, directed by Peter Grönlund (Goliat, Drifters) and starring Ulf Stenberg, Miriam Ingrid, and Oliver Dufåker, among others, will be hitting HBO and HBO Max on February 22nd.
Based on the Fredrik Backman’s bestselling novel of the same name, Beartown explores the role a junior ice-hockey team has in a small community, the hope, the secrets that could tear the town apart, the courage it takes to go against the group and the consequences of how we raise our children.
