Take a look at the trailer that’s arrived for Beforeigners, an HBO Nordic series that looks at the topics of refugee crisis and discrimination through an interesting lens.
Set in the near future, the series finds refugees arriving in Oslo, Norway, not from other countries, but from three past eras: The Stone Age, The Viking era, and the late 19th century. A cop is reluctantly partnered with a new past-era recruit, and they’re both assigned to the case of a murdered refugee woman.
It’s an interesting-looking genre-crossing drama; one that could present an engrossing angle on real-world themes – which is what good sci-fi can do. We’re intrigued.
The six-part series started airing in Norway last year and it seems to have been well received there. We’ll see if international audiences also warm to it. Beforeigners kicked off on HBO in the U.S. on February 18.
