The pendulum swings once again.
Off the back of THR’s report that Ben Affleck may be walking away from the DCEU after Justice League, comes word to the contrary from the actor himself. “I am the luckiest guy in the world,” Affleck told the crowd at Comic-Con. “I’m so thrilled to do it.”
Affleck also spoke about how excited he was to be working under director Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes), who replaced Affleck at the helm earlier this year. “I would be an ape on the ground for Matt Reeves!” Affleck said.
“I’ve done the two movies. I’ve always intended on doing a third if Warners wants to make it,” Affleck said. “Certainly, if the Batphone rings, I will answer.”
He added: “I’d love to do it as long as they’ll have me. Eventually it’ll be somebody else, and I’m sure they’ll get somebody great. But while I’m doing it, I’m going to do the best job I can, and really appreciate how lucky I am.”
Affleck revealed that he isn’t yet clear on what Reeves has in store.
“I think getting Matt Reeves to come in and do it is really, really exciting,” he said. “Matt hasn’t really unveiled his full vision yet. He wanted to wait until Apes came out, and he was obviously consumed with that. So I’m looking forward to hearing what his story is.”
Of course, we’ve heard confident things from Affleck before, including that he was staying on board as director prior to him stepping down. So far, it appears reports that Warner Bros. was looking at phasing out the actor from the role are simply rumours.
Stay tuned for the next development…
