MGM is planning to remake the 1959 epic Ben-Hur. Deadline is reporting that MGM, which has come from near bankruptcy to huge success with The Hobbit and Skyfall both raking it at the box-office, is planning to make the film based on the 1880 Lew Wallace novel Ben-Hur: A Tale Of The Christ. MGM has bought a Ben-Hur script written by Keith Clarke (The Way Back). Expect heaps of rewrites and plenty of rumours as to who will eventually play the lead character. The 1959 film won a record 11 Oscars so MGM’s got some work to do if they want to replicate the huge success of the original.
