If Jack Black and Paul Rudd’s comedic take on Anaconda left you wishing someone would just make a nasty, straight-faced giant-snake movie again, Beware Boiúna may have you covered. Lionsgate has released the official trailer for the tense, bloody-looking creature feature, unleashing an ancient serpent on an increasingly terrified group deep in the Amazon. A Medical Mission Goes Very, Very Wrong
The film follows a team of doctors heading into the Amazon on a medical mission, only to discover that their arrival has attracted the attention of something considerably bigger than anything they were prepared for.

That would be Boiúna, an enormous serpent drawn from Brazilian folklore and presented here as an ancient predator reclaiming its territory. Once it wakes, the river quickly becomes its hunting ground.
The trailer gets to the point quickly and effectively, and thankfully doesn’t give away too much of the monster mayhem. What starts as an uneasy journey into the jungle turns into full creature-feature chaos, with boats under attack, people being snatched and a snake that appears equally comfortable pursuing its prey in the water and on land. There’s plenty of scale here — quite literally — but the trailer looks more interested in making the snake frightening than simply making it enormous.
Judging by the comments under the trailer on YouTube, we’re hardly alone in making that Anaconda comparison. Plenty of viewers are already describing Beware Boiúna as much closer to the giant-snake movie they had hoped to get from that franchise’s recent return.
Star Jessica Rothe had actually drawn a similar distinction long before this footage arrived. Speaking to Collider in 2025, when the film was still known as Titan, Rothe was enthusiastic about the Jack Black and Paul Rudd comedy but made it clear that her own giant-snake movie was going in a very different direction.
“Our movie is much more like if Sorcerer met Anaconda, so it’s gritty and real,” Rothe said.
She also explained that the production went considerably further than simply pretending to be in the jungle. “We went down to the Amazon to shoot it,” she said, adding that the location gave her the chance to take rainforest tours and travel around by boat.
A Team With Horror Credentials
Mike P. Nelson directs, continuing a run of genre projects that includes the 2021 Wrong Turn reboot, segments of V/H/S/85 and the 2025 Silent Night, Deadly Night remake.
The screenplay comes from Alan McElroy, whose horror credits include Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and the original 2003 Wrong Turn. McElroy and Tony Giglio are credited with the story.
Leading the cast are Kiana Madeira, best known to horror audiences for Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy; Rothe, of the Happy Death Day films; and Logan Marshall-Green, whose credits include Upgrade, The Invitation and, recently, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
The project has slithered through a few titles on its way to cinemas. It was originally known as Titan, later became Boiúna: Legend of the Amazon, and is now officially arriving as Beware Boiúna.
