Margot Robbie is back as Harley Quinn in the upcoming DC movie Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, which has its first trailer ready for you to watch below. And yes, that’s the whole official title.
Even if Suicide Squad really wasn’t all that great, Robbie’s take on the troubled anti-hero proved to strike the right chord with audiences. So much so, that now she’s leading her own film with her own group of ass-kickers. The film also has Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary and Rosie Perez and Renee Montoya, although the focus in this first trailer is understandably banking on Harley. Ewan McGregor is on board as the film’s villain, Black Mask.
It’s a good first trailer, showing off high energy and gorgeous production design. It’s certainly a big get for director Cathy Yan, who’s only made one small indie drama (Dead Pigs) before Robbie head-hunted her for this. Robbie, by the way, is one of this film’s producers. The screenplay comes from Christina Hodson, who wrote the well-received Transformers spinoff Bumblebee. We’re liking what we’re seeing so far; fingers crossed for movie number 8 in the bumpy DC cinematic universe.
Birds of Prey will arrive in Australia on February 6 and opens in the US on February 7, 2020.
