Better mark those calendars for a Black Panther sequel.

Disney‘s biennial exposition event D23 has been taking place, bringing with it a plethora of announcements and hype-building goodies. Once such exciting bit of Marvel news that had Kevin Feige and Ryan Coogler hit the stage: Black Panther 2 has been given a US release date of May 6, 2022.

Black Panther director and co-writer Coogler (whose credits also include Creed and Fruitvale Station) will be back at the helm of the sequel, with Chadwick Boseman obviously expected to reprise his title role.

Coogler directed the first film to wide success, both critically and financially. The film drew $US1.3 billion worldwide, making it the fifth-highest grossing film in the MCU and the eleventh-highest grossing film of all time, so far. The film was also a game changer for superhero films at the Oscars, earning seven nominations, including Best Picture, and winning three (Best Original Score, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design).
