The film is already boasting a strong cast, including Chadwick Boseman (in the lead), Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira, and the casting continues with three more names.
As per Variety, Whitaker, Sicario actor Daniel Kaluuya and Florence Kasumba, the latter of which appeared in Captain America: Civil War, will have roles to play in T’Challa first standalone live-action feature.
Whitaker will be playing Zuri, an elder stateman in Wakanda; Kaluuya is attached to play W’Kabi, T’Challa’s confident; and Kasumba is reprising her Civil War part as Wyo, a member of the Dora Milaje, the personal guards led by Gurira’s Okoye.
Black Panther, directed and co-written by Fruitvale Station and Creed director Ryan Coogler, is scheduled for US release on February 16, 2018.
Apart from Black Panther, Whitaker has two other big projects coming up: Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi pic Arrival, set to open in November, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which will arrive in December.
