‘Black Widow’ Trailer: Scarlett Johannson Leads Her Own Chapter in the MCU

The first trailer has arrived for Marvel‘s Black Widow!

That’s right, Scarlett Johansson‘s Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, has finally been given her own chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We last saw Nathasha in Avengers: Endgame, and as we saw in one of that film’s shocking moments, the character met her end with quite the sacrifice. The reason she’s alive and kicking ass here: Black Widow is set after Captain America: Civil War.

We follow the heroine as she heads back to Russia and reunites with people from her past. Of course, there’s a big threat they need to take on. New MCU cast members include Florence Pugh (Fighting with My Family, Midsommar) as fellow assassin Yelena, David Harbour (Stranger Things, Hellboy) as Alexei aka former Soviet superhero The Red Guardian and Rachel Weisz (The Favourite, The Mummy) as Melina. William Hurt is also on board, reprising his MCU role as Thaddeus E. “Thunderbolt” Ross.

It’s a great first look, showing off way more than expected for what’s being officially called a “teaser trailer.” We’re going to be getting a lot more backstory for Natasha in a film with a great supporting cast and some slick Bourne-esque action. It’s going to be interesting to see what surprises are in store here, particularly with what we know lies ahead with Natasha’s fate. Could we be introduced to something that changes her narrative’s trajectory? It’s certainly possible, particularly since this is the first film of Marvel’s Phase Four.

Black Widow, directed by Australian director Cate Shortland (Somersault, Lore, Berlin Syndrome), will be arriving in Australian cinemas on April 30 and opening in the US on May 1, 2020.
