Bridgerton fans, rejoice! Production has officially kicked off on the much-anticipated Bridgerton Season 4 in England.

Leading the fourth season of the hit Netflix series will be none other than Luke Thompson, reprising his role as the charming Benedict Bridgerton, alongside a new face, rapidly rising Aussie star Yerin Ha, who takes on the pivotal role of Sophie Baek. You can see the two of them together for the first time in the new image Netflix has unveiled above.

Benedict’s Love Story Takes Centre Stage

This season focuses on Benedict Bridgerton, the bohemian second son of the family, who, unlike his brothers, has been reluctant to settle down—until now. Sophie Baek, a captivating and mysterious woman played by Ha, steals Benedict’s heart at a masquerade ball hosted by his mother, Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell). However, Benedict knows her only as the “Lady in Silver,” unaware of her complex life as a resourceful maid with a tragic past.

Luke Thompson, speaking to Netflix site Tudum, teased how this season will intertwine fairy tale romance with the reality of the world. “What’s striking about Season 4 is that it’s the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale — the romance of it — and the actual reality of the world. And both are true. You have to hold both of them — the romance and the reality — in your hand,” he explained. Fans can expect an emotional and enchanting journey as Benedict searches for Sophie, not realising she is living a much harder life than the polished aristocratic ladies of the ton.

Yerin Ha Joins the Cast as Sophie Baek

The casting of Yerin Ha brings a fresh dynamic to the Bridgerton world. Ha, a Sydney-raised Korean-Australian actress, is no stranger to high-profile projects, having previously starred in the Halo series and the upcoming Dune: Prophecy prequel series. A graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney, Ha made her mark on the stage with the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Lord of the Flies before moving into television.

Taking on the role of Sophie Baek, Ha steps into a character who faces a series of obstacles—both personal and societal. “What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles — something that she constantly has to overcome,” Ha explained in her interview with Tudum. “Whether it’s this battle around social status or trying to hide her feelings from Benedict.”

Ha’s casting also includes a thoughtful change to her character’s name, adapting it from the original Sophie Beckett (in Julia Quinn’s novels) to Sophie Baek, in recognition of Ha’s Korean heritage. The showrunner, Jess Brownell, worked with Ha to ensure the character’s identity reflected her background. “It’s a really nice way for me to feel like the role is fit for me, rather than me having to fit a certain mold,” Ha shared.

New Characters and Returning Favourites

In addition to the central romance between Benedict and Sophie, Bridgerton Season 4 will introduce several new characters. Katie Leung will play Lady Araminta Gun, a twice-widowed aristocrat eager to marry off her daughters, Rosamund (Michelle Mao) and Posy (Isabella Wei). Meanwhile, returning favourites such as Emma Naomi (Alice Mondrich) and Hugh Sachs (Brimsley) will continue to charm audiences. The individuals, of course, among many others.

A Fairy Tale with a Twist

As Bridgerton Season 4 moves into production, fans can expect a season packed with romance, social intrigue, and more than a few surprises. As Thompson hinted, “I get really excited by how many unexpected twists you’ll get in Season 4. A big one I’m sure I can mention is this one masquerade ball…”

With Yerin Ha bringing a fresh face and compelling new character into the Bridgerton universe, all eyes will be on Sophie Baek—and the impact she’s set to have on Benedict Bridgerton’s life. Stay tuned for more Bridgerton news as it unfolds. We still need that season 4 release date!
