‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’ Trailer: Bridget Revisits Dating Life After Mark Darcy’s Death

The beloved Bridget Jones is back on screen, with the trailer for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy bringing her signature blend of romance, humour, and heartache to fans once more. Renée Zellweger reprises her iconic role in this adaptation of Helen Fielding’s 2013 novel, and for those who haven’t read the book, the trailer reveals a bombshell: Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth in previous films, has died.

Bridget is now a mother, to nine-year-old Billy and four-year-old Mabel, and adjusting to life without Mark, who tragically passed away on a humanitarian mission in Sudan. Bridget finds herself in a difficult phase of life, relying on her circle of close friends and even the enduringly charming Daniel Cleaver, played again by Hugh Grant, as she raises her children. Pushed by her loved ones, including her ever-supportive mother and her gynaecologist, Dr. Rawlings (Emma Thompson), Bridget re-enters the dating world, where she encounters a fresh romantic prospect, a young man portrayed by Leo Woodall (The White Lotus). And could there be another potential love interest? Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Mr. Wallaker, her son’s rational-to-a-fault science teacher.

The film is directed by Michael Morris (To Leslie, episodes of Better Call Saul), with a screenplay Fielding co-wrote alongside Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, Shame, Eric) and Dan Mazer (Bridget Jones’s Baby, Borat).

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will be in Australian cinemas on February 13th. In the United States, it will be available to stream on Peacock from the same date.
