Brie Larson & Jesse Plemons to Star in Charlie Kaufman’s Netflix Film, ‘I’m Thinking of Ending Things’

Charlie Kaufman (writer of Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Adaptation and Being John Malkovich) is gearing up to tackle his third big-screen feature following Synecdoche, New York and Anomalisa, and he’s lined up his leads.

Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson, who earned a Best Actress win for her performance in 2015’s Room, is closing a deal to star in I’m Thinking of Ending Things, which Kaufman has written and will direct for streaming giant Netflix. Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, The Post) is also currently in talks to join her. The film is an adaptation of the 2016 novel by Iain Reid, who is on board as co-producer.

Deadline broke the news of Larson’s casting, reporting that Larson will be playing a girlfriend who’s thinking of ending things with Jake (Plemons). On a road trip to meet his parents on a secluded farm, an unexpected detour leaves her stranded, and tension, psychological frailty and sheer terror ensues. Variety broke the news of Plemons’ involvement.

Larson and Plemons’ horizons are certainly looking promising. Apart from the huge Captain Marvel and this Kaufman movie, Larson will also be starring with Michael B. Jordan in a civil rights drama titled Just Mercy, reuniting her with Short Term 12 helmer Destin Daniel Cretton. Plemons will soon be seen opposite Keri Russell in Antlers, he’ll be seen in Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, and he has a role in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming gangster film The Irishman.
