Netflix in Talks with Director for Sequel ‘Bright 2’

A sequel to 2017 action-fantasy film Bright is heading into development – and Netflix looks to have their director.

Currently in negotiations to take the helm of Bright 2 is Louis Leterrier, whose credits include The Transporter, Unleashed, The Incredible Hulk and Now You See Me, as well as all ten episodes of Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Deadline broke the news, reporting that Will Smith and Joel Edgerton are expected to return as human cop Daryl Ward and human orc Nick Jakoby, respectively. The script originally comes from the first film’s director David Ayer and Evan Spiliotopoulos (The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Beauty and the Beast remake), with a rewrite from Maze Runner movies scribe T.S. Nowlin.

No plot details are known at this time, although the follow-up will reportedly be expanding the story from the streets of Los Angeles to an international stage.

While Bright received middling to negative reviews, the film had an estimated 60 million tune in, was pivotal in establishing Netflix as a big contender in the movie game, and also put the streamer in business with Smith and Ayer. For the record, we dug the film. Our review is HERE.
