Bruce Springsteen has shared glowing remarks about Jeremy Allen White’s portrayal of him in the upcoming biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere. The two-time Golden Globe winner, perhaps best known for his role in acclaimed series The Bear, stars as Springsteen in a film that chronicles the making of the iconic 1982 album Nebraska.
Speaking on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio, Springsteen admitted that seeing someone play him felt “a little [weird] at first,” but he quickly adjusted. “You get over that pretty quick,” Springsteen said. “And Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it. He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize. He’s just done a great job, so I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”
Springsteen also praised White’s singing ability, an important component of the role. “He sings well, he sings very well,” the music star noted. He went on to highlight the film’s ensemble, which includes Succession star Jeremy Strong and Odessa Young (The Staircase). “There’s just a tremendous cast of people. They cast the film beautifully, so it’s very exciting.”
White, for his part, has expressed enthusiasm and gratitude for the role. In a September 2024 interview with Deadline, he called Springsteen “lovely and supportive” throughout the process. “I’ve got a really beautiful team of people helping me, and Bruce has been really lovely and supportive and available, which has made this whole process an extra joy.” He also noted his preparation for the role included extensive vocal and musical training, as well as studying Springsteen’s performances and interviews.
Deliver Me from Nowhere comes from writer-director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace) and is based on Warren Zanes’ book of the same name. Springsteen and his longtime manager Jon Landau, who is portrayed in the film by Jeremy Strong, are actively involved in the production. Landau has also praised White’s casting, calling him “perfect” for the role.
20th Century Studios is releasing the biopic sometime in 2025. In case you missed it, here’s the first-look image released of White as Springsteen:
