When Brie Larson tweeted the following yesterday…

… many, including us, were kind of hoping for a first trailer or teaser trailer. Alas, we don’t have any footage yet, but the below is still a very enticing precursor. EW has unveiled the first series of official images teasing what’s to come in Marvel‘s first film led by a heroine.

Before we find out unfolds after the shocking events in Avengers: Infinity War, we head back to the ’90s and meet the half-human, half-Kree Carol Danvers, played by Oscar winner Brie Larson. As you may remember, towards the end of Infinity War Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury decided to page a certain someone…

Apparently we won’t be getting the expected origin story elements here; EW reports that the film will begin with Danvers already with her powers. And she isn’t on earth anymore either, having left behind her life as an Air Force pilot to join military team Starforce on the planet of Hala. Djimon Hounsou’s Korath, who we met in Guardians of the Galaxy, is among the team members. You can imagine that we would still get some sort of “origin story” montage or something to provide some backstory.

The cast also includes Jude Law, playing leader of Starforce  and a mentor of sorts to Danvers…

Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau, a top Air Force pilot, single mother, and one of Carol’s best friends…

And a younger, two-eyed Fury, played by a digitally de-aged Jackson…

Directing Captain Marvel are Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who have previously directed much smaller indie dramas such as Sugar, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, and Mississippi Grind (also with Mendelsohn). Fleck was the sole director credited on the Ryan Gosling-starring drama Half Nelson, although he did co-write it with Boden.

And now, the waiting game. Captain Marvel, which will also star Annette Benning, Gemma Chan, Clark Gregg, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, and McKenna Grace, will be arriving in Australia on 7 March 2019 and hitting the US on 8 March 2019.  What a few of months: the still-untitled Avengers 4 arrives in Australia on 25 April 2019 and hits the US on 3 May 2019.
