‘Carrie’ Prime Video Series Coming from ‘Haunting of Hill House’s Mike Flanagan

Mike Flanagan, known for his critically acclaimed work on horror projects like The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and King adaptations such as Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game, and upcoming Tom Hiddleston-starrer The Life of Chuck, is now set to tackle Stephen King’s classic novel Carrie in an eight-episode series for Amazon.

As first reported by Deadline, Flanagan will serve as showrunner for the series, offering a fresh adaptation of King’s 1974 novel. Carrie tells the tale of a bullied high school girl, whose telekinetic abilities are unleashed with devastating consequences after being pushed to her breaking point. The novel catapulted King to fame and was first adapted into a now-iconic 1976 film directed by Brian De Palma, starring Sissy Spacek.

While Carrie has been revisited several times—through sequels, TV adaptations, and remakes—this Amazon series will give the story a new, expansive treatment. Previous adaptations include The Rage: Carrie 2, a 2002 TV movie, and a 2013 remake with Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.

Flanagan, who has earned a reputation for his atmospheric storytelling and deep character work in series like The Haunting of Bly Manor, will also executive produce alongside Trevor Macy. With the writers’ room already underway, production on the series is expected to begin soon.

The new Carrie series joins the ever-expanding slate of King adaptations, including upcoming films The Monkey (from director Osgood Perkins), Fairy Tale (from director Francis Lawrence), and The Running Man (from director Edgar Wright), among others.
