Well, this certainly sounds promising.
Two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett is set to play Hollywood legend Lucille Ball in a biopic to be penned by Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin.
The Wrap broke the news, reporting that Blanchett will be starring in a film set to cover Ball’s marriage to her I Love Lucy co-star Desi Arnaz. The two were married for 20 years and had two children. They divorced in 1960 and Ball went on to marry Gary Morton the next year.
The authorised biopic is being backed by producers Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., who played Ball’s children in Here’s Lucy, and Sony-based company Escape Artists.
Sorkin has a history of writing films based on real-life figures, winning an Oscar for The Social Network and putting in scripts for both Charlie Wilson’s War and Moneyball. He also penned the upcoming Steve Jobs, which stars Michael Fassbender in the lead role.
Blanchett is up there with the best actresses working in Hollywood today, and we can only imagine the class of performance she’ll be putting in here. She took home her first Oscar win for her portrayal of Katherine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator and received her second win for her performance in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine.
All eyes are now on which director will be chosen to bring this one to life.
