Infamous Flop ‘Cats’ Gets a Musical Honest Trailer

Universal Pictures

The infamous box office flop that is Cats has finally received its Honest Trailer.

An Academy Award-winning director, a big cast with some acclaimed thespians and popstars, and an ultra-successful stage musical as source material. What, just what, could possibly go wrong? The answer: Cats, a film that lost Universal Pictures around $US100 million, was absolutely pummelled by critics, and either ignored or ridiculed by general audiences. It sits with a 20% score on Rotten Tomatoes and at IMDb holds an abysmal 2.7 out of 10 based on close to 31,000 votes, which places it at number 25 on IMDb’s Bottom Rated Movies (2008 spoof Disaster Movie holds the “top spot” as the worst-scored, for those playing at home).

“A film that keeps everything insane about the Broadway show, but strips away the thrill of live performance and weirdly keeps a lot of the constraints of a stage production,” says movie trailer voice guy, before announcing that “since they sing everything, we’re going to do the same thing to you.” Yep, pretty much the whole Honest Trailer is sung. Whether or not it works well is… debatable.
