Chad Powers finally has everything Russ Holliday wanted: wins, adoring fans and a very real shot at football glory. There’s just one rather inconvenient problem — the more famous Chad gets, the more people start wondering who the hell he actually is. Hulu has released the official trailer for Chad Powers season 2, with Glen Powell back under the prosthetics as Russ attempts to keep college football’s most ridiculous secret alive. Being Chad Powers Is Getting Complicated
Season 1 ended with Russ’s carefully constructed second life taking a major hit when Ricky Hudson (Perry Mattfeld) discovered that South Georgia’s miracle quarterback was actually the disgraced former Oregon star hiding behind a wig, prosthetics and an increasingly ambitious Southern accent.
Ricky ultimately agreed to keep quiet, largely because exposing Russ could destroy the Catfish’s season and do serious damage to her father, head coach Jake Hudson (Steve Zahn). Season 2 now has her reluctantly joining Russ and Danny (Frankie A. Rodriguez) in keeping the deception alive — a task that’s becoming considerably harder.
Chad is now a genuine star. Fans chant his name, his teammates are obsessed with him and even second-string quarterback Gerry (Colton Ryan), who has plenty of reasons to resent the guy, admits that Chad fever has taken hold. Russ and Danny are still doing their best to keep the machinery running behind the scenes, although the trailer suggests their friendship has become surprisingly genuine along the way.
“I haven’t had a lot of real friends in my life,” Russ tells Danny during one rare sincere moment. “Until you, basically zero.”
Danny replies: “I don’t want to be earnest!” And fair enough. There are wigs to maintain.
The Mask Is Starting to Slip
The real danger isn’t what Chad is doing on the field. It’s everything Russ has to do when he isn’t throwing a football.
His odd behaviour is attracting attention from Gerry and Coach Hudson, while Ricky looks increasingly horrified by the mess she has agreed to help contain. Her goal is simple enough: avoid what she describes as the “worst scandal in sports history”.
And considering what happens if Coach Hudson learns the truth, Danny isn’t exactly optimistic. “What’s the worst that could happen?” Russ asks him. Danny replies: “He finds out you’re Russ Holliday and actually murders you.”
The joke at the heart of Chad Powers remains wonderfully stupid, but season 2 looks to be having fun with the fact that Russ’s ridiculous plan has worked almost too well. Chad now matters to people, giving Russ considerably more to lose when the whole thing inevitably blows up.
Who’s Back and Who’s New on the Field?
Powell returns alongside Mattfeld, Rodriguez, Zahn, Wynn Everett as Tricia Yeager, Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd and Ryan as Gerry.
The new season also brings in Pulse star Colin Woodell, Community alum Gillian Jacobs, Carey O’Donnell and The Bear actor Nate Varrone as guest stars.
Powell co-created Chad Powers with Michael Waldron, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Luvh Rakhe. The series was inspired by Eli Manning’s 2022 Eli’s Places segment, which saw the former NFL quarterback disguise himself as Chad Powers and attempt to walk on at Penn State. Eli and Peyton Manning are among the show’s executive producers.
When Will Chad Powers Season 2 Arrive?
Chad Powers season 2 consists of six episodes, all arriving September 3. The season will stream on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in Australia.
