Charlie Hunnam has been cast as Christian Grey in the big-screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. Universal Pictures has announced that Hunnam, star of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim and television’s Sons of Anarchy, will be playing the 27-year-old billionaire. Also recently announced, Dakota Johnson (21 Jump Street) has been cast as Anastasia Steel, the college student who begins a relationship with Grey.
The film is being directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy) and produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti alongside E L James, the author of the #1 bestselling book on which the film is based. The screenplay is by Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks, TV’s Terra Nova).
Fans of the books will finally be able to put faces to their beloved characters. Fifty Shades of Grey has become a global phenomenon and the trilogy has been translated in 50 languages worldwide since its release.
