John Wick helmers David Leitch and Chad Stahelski will be directing Charlize Theron in The Coldest City, a spy thriller based on the graphic novel by Antony Johnston.
Deadline reports that Focus Features has forked out a deal said to be in the eight figures for the U.S. rights to the film, which will begin shooting in Germany this coming October.
The film will see Theron playing a spy who has to find a list that was being smuggled by an underground M16 officer prior to his death. The story, set before the fall of the Berlin Wall, offers up double crosses and action as she tries to protect herself and the counter intelligence community.
Theron will also be producing The Coldest City, alongside Denver and Delilah Productions’ Beth Kono and AJ Dix, Closed on Mondays Entertainment’s Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin, and Sierra/Affinity’s Kelly McCormick.
Leitch and Stahelski are also developing a sequel to John Wick, which will see Keanu Reeves back in the lead, while Charlize Theron will next be seen in George Miller’s highly anticipated Mad Max: Fury Road.
