A different type of film is on the way for Charlotte Gainsbourg.
The Nymphomaniac actress is currently in negotiations to join the cast of Independence Day 2. THR broke the news, but didn’t provide any info on what her role would be.
A longtime collaborator of Lars von Trier, starring Antichrist, Melancholia, and both parts of Nymphomaniac, and appearing in arthouse fare like The Science of Sleep and I’m Not There, this would arguably be the most “mainstream”-type film the actress has ever signed up for.
The Independence Day sequel will see director Roland Emmerich back at the helm, with Jessie Usher cast in a potentially star-making lead role. He’ll be playing the son of the character played by Will Smith in the first film, but Smith himself isn’t back.
Independence Day 2, which will also see Jeff Goldblum reprising his role, is to hit the U.S. on June 24, 2016.
