Many consider Christian Bale’s turn as Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, to be up there with the best. Bale, on the other hand, isn’t convinced.
In an interview with Yahoo!, promoting his Terrence Malick film Knight of Cups, Bale revealed that he wasn’t completely satisfied with his interpretation of the Dark Knight.
“I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would throughout the trilogy,” he said. “Chris did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it.’”
Bale filled the batsuit in all three of Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, but it was The Dark Knight, the second and arguably best in the trilogy, that Bale said made him realise that his character was lacking a certain something. Lacking, in comparison to Heath Ledger’s incredible performance as the Joker.
“Heath turned up, and just kind of completely ruined all my plans,” Bale said. “I went, ‘He’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing.'”
All eyes are now on Ben Affleck, who’ll be playing the Caped Crusader for the first time in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
